Biobased materials and bioinspiration.
Natural materials are the result of a remarkable design of their architecture to fulfill the necessary functions of the organisms synthesizing them. We will take up here two examples of "biomimetic" materials inspired by the plant walls of growing cells constituted by pectin gels reinforced by cellulose microfibrils and structural colors obtained by the cholesteric arrangement of cellulose nanocrystals as well. The mechanical properties of oriented materials will also be discussed.
