In response to the major challenges of ecological and energy transition, ESPCI Paris - PSL is now accepting applications for its new specialised master’s programme, ACTION: "Life Cycle Analysis and Industrial Emissions Reduction Trajectories." This innovative programme is designed to train the engineers and experts of tomorrow in reducing the carbon footprint of industries and their products.

Developed in partnership with Chimie ParisTech - PSL and Université Paris Dauphine - PSL, and supported by the "Skills and Jobs of the Future" initiative under the France 2030 programme, this specialised master’s aims to address the growing corporate demand for expertise in environmental analysis and decarbonisation strategies for processes and products. The programme is available for both initial education and continuing professional development.

Training Industrial Decarbonisation Engineers

The ACTION programme is structured around three key pillars:

  • Mastery of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA): A methodology for assessing the environmental impact of industrial products and processes.
  • In-depth expertise in low-carbon technologies: Electrification of processes, hydrogen, CO₂ capture and utilisation, material recycling, and eco-design.
  • Immersion in industrial and innovation challenges: Featuring expert-led courses, real-world case studies, an industry mission, and the completion of a professional thesis.

This new programme addresses the evolving needs of industry:
"Our partner companies Arkema, Saint-Gobain, and Syensqo have observed a significant gap in comprehensive training that fully integrates the three pillars of LCA (environmental, economic, and social) with practical applications. The ACTION master’s programme will provide a complete education delivered by both academics and professionals in the transition field," says Annie Colin, Professor at ESPCI Paris – PSL and Director of the Master’s programme.

A Gateway to High-Impact Careers

The 12-month ACTION specialised master’s at ESPCI Paris – PSL is designed for young graduates and professionals looking to transition into impactful roles, such as:

  • Life Cycle Analysis Engineer
  • Industrial Decarbonisation Consultant
  • R&D Project Manager in Environmental Science
  • Eco-design and Sustainable Innovation Engineer

Graduates will be equipped to conduct and critically assess analyses, model missing data, estimate uncertainties, and lead teams of analysts. They will also be trained to educate colleagues and define sustainable decarbonisation pathways.

Application & Admission Process

Applications are now open for the 2025 intake. Certain modules will be available for continuing education from October 2025. Candidates are selected based on their academic record and an interview, assessing their motivation, scientific skills, and English proficiency.
